The second production in The Atlanta Opera’s 2011-12 season is a comic opera called The Golden Ticket, based on the classic children’s book “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” by Roald Dahl. In this story, a young boy named Charlie finds a “golden ticket” admitting him into Willy Wonka’s top-secret chocolate factory where he encounters chocolate rivers, inflating blueberries, magic elevators and other delights. The Golden Ticket is a poignant tale about wishes coming true.

Science Fun: Floating Popcorn Kernels
Demonstrate buoyancy and chemical reactions! Show your kids some science with items you probably have at home.
What you need:
- A clear, tall container
- 3 cups of water--You can see in the video that I did not measure anything
- 1/4 to 1/3 cup of baking soda
- 1/8 cup of unpopped popcorn kernels
- 1/4 to 1/2 cup of white vinegar
What you do:
- Mix baking soda and water in the clear container
- Add corn kernels
