Last Saturday evening Jack and I took off to see the wizard - and what a wonderful wizard he was! I had debated taking him to the show. The version of The Wizard of Oz Drew and I saw last year at Cobb Energy Centre was a little scary - extremely good - but scary nonetheless! The second production in The Atlanta Opera’s 2011-12 season is a comic opera called The Golden Ticket, based on the classic children’s book “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” by Roald Dahl. In this story, a young boy named Charlie finds a “golden ticket” admitting him into Willy Wonka’s top-secret chocolate factory where he encounters chocolate rivers, inflating blueberries, magic elevators and other delights. The opera will be sung in English with English Supertitles and run approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes

After being swept away from her parents, Little Noodle must journey across the grocery store to find her way home. Along the way she meets many strange characters, all with opinions on how she should eat and live. Join Little Noodle in this interactive adventure about making healthy choices and loving yourself exactly as you are. Part of the Center's Healthy Children initiative, Artistic Director Jon Ludwig teamed up with a group of experts to promote the most accurate theories on how to prevent childhood obesity. Using an innovative combination of projected animation and black light puppetry, this original work reinforces the message of the experts by demystifying the problem in an engaging and theatrical setting.

Adventures with Clifford The Big Red Dog™ will transport visitors to the world of Clifford™, Emily Elizabeth™ and the residents of Birdwell Island. The exhibit offers numerous immersive "paws-on" adventures that reinforce simple life lessons such as: Share, Work Together, Be Responsible, Be Truthful, Be Kind, Believe in Yourself, and Help Others. Children can visit the 9-foot high Clifford and slide down his tail. Friday, March 9 - Purim Costume Parade and Song Session

All are invited to join the Weinstein School at the JCC for a Purim Costume Parade and Song Session on Friday, March 9. The parade will take place on Main Street and will begin at 9:45 am followed by a presentation and sing-a-long in the Morris & Rae Frank Theatre. Children are encouraged to wear their Purim costumes for the festivities. The Membership Department will provide hamantaschen and coffee in the main lobby in celebration of Purim.

Saturday, March 10 - Princess Day at Georgia Aquarium

Georgia Aquarium's Princess Day, presented by Eversave, invites all princesses, princes and frogs to help raise awareness for frog conservation. Georgia Aquarium is committed to ensuring the survival and conservation of all amphibian species, and what better way to highlight the struggles of the world's amphibians than to join with the frog's greatest friend, the princess. Festivities include princess interactions, photo opportunities, giveaways, arts, crafts and games - all with princesses and lots of frogs, too! Radio Disney will be onsite from 12-2 p.m. to join in the fun.

Sunday, March 11 - Hunger Walk/Run 2012

On Sunday, March 11, 2012 more than 13,000 walkers, runners, moms, dads, boys and girls will gather at Turner Field's Green Lot to take a step toward ending hunger in our community. All funds raised benefit the Atlanta Community Food Bank & other local hunger relief organizations. All walkers who raise or contribute $25 or more will receive a free Hunger Walk/Run t-shirt on the day of the walk. Enjoy treats  from some of the hottest food trucks Atlanta has to offer; A Kids Play Zone featuring inflatables, educational activities, games, face painting and more; The Nationwide NASCAR show car and interactive race simulator; live music, dancers and jugglers.

PurimPALOOZA 2012 Pancake Breakfast, Costume Parade and Magic Show. A pancake breakfast featuring characters and mascots will begin at 10:00 am. Following breakfast, children are invited to participate in a Purim costume parade which will take place up and down Main Street, the main corridor at the center of the JCC. At 11:30 am, all are invited to join us the Morris & Rae Frank Theatre for Purim songs and a spectacular magic show. The parade, songs and magic show are open to the community and free of charge.

Monday, March 12 - Magic Mondays at Atlanta History Center : Planes, Trains & Automobiles

The Atlanta History Museum, exhibitions, Tullie Smith Farm &  33 acres of woodland trails & gardens provide the perfect backdrop for fun-filled educational activities in this monthly program. Mar. 12: Little ones travel through our Metropolitan Frontiers exhibition to explore transportation through the time.  Transportation-inspired games keep kids moving like a locomotive.  Story time, sing-along songs, and craft time round out this fun-filled day.
