May 25: “The Pea Blossom” and “The Ant and the Grasshopper”. Kiddie Gardener Series at Smith-Gilbert Gardens. Every Second & Fourth Friday. A time for kids to come hear a garden related story, sing, create art and walk around the gardens. Programs vary with each topic, but may include a nature activity, an art project,  games and songs. NEW EXHIBIT! The Big Adventure gives children the opportunity to test their abilities, both mentally and physically! Children will explore Adventure Mountain and The Tunnels of Fun, where they  will climb a six-foot wall of rocks, crawl through dark tunnels and, finally, reach the Crow’s Nest for a bird’s eye  view of the other adventures throughout the exhibit. The Atlanta Jazz Festival is regarded as one of the Country’s largest FREE jazz festivals.  In addition to the main performers, look for the Youth Jazz Band Competition. Two KidZone areas will offer family-friendly fun from Noon – 6pm each day. Activities will include sports like soccer and basketball, a cooling tent where popular cartoons will be screened each day, face painters, inflatables and the ever popular hula hoops! Tom and Huck didn't use fancy fishing gear on the Mississippi. Fishing poles made of river cane with a cork bobber and a hook on the end of the line waiting to be baited will be provided. Monday, May 28 - Smyrna Memorial Day Ceremony

Join the City of Smyrna for Memorial Day at 20th Century Veterans Memorial. The ceremony is organized and officiated by members of the community. Honor and appreciate our commitment to peace through strength and sacrifice. Seating will start after 8:00 a.m. and pre-ceremony/ceremony activities will begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. The ceremony is sponsored and coordinated by the Smyrna Veterans Committee, an organization composed of the City of Smyrna, The Veterans Memorial Association of Smyrna, and American Legion Post 160. The ceremony is a public event and all are invited to attend and participate in this memorial service to honor those who have sacrificed in defense of our nation.

Sunday, June 3 - FREE Community Day at The Woodruff

Activities include: Free admission to the High Museum of Art; storytelling, puppets, art projects & music by Young Audiences; An instrument "petting zoo" by the ASO Performances and acting workshops by the Alliance Theatre, including a reading by Pearl Cleage. Q&A session with Alfred Uhry, author of Driving Miss Daisy. June 3, 2012 marks the 50th anniversary of the plane crash at Paris' Orly Airport that took the lives of 122 Atlanta arts patrons. This tragedy deeply affected the city and ultimately inspired the founding of The Woodruff Arts Center. Community Day at The Woodruff will commemorate the anniversary and celebrate the impact the Arts Center has had over the last 50 years.
