It's Roald Dahl Month at the Smyrna Library


Movies and Parties Will Celebrate the Author

Celebrate author Roald Dahl all month at the Smyrna Library. For the events calendar, CLICK HERE. On Friday, Sept. 10th, it's Dahl Movie Day. "James & the Giant Peach" will be shown at 3:30pm. Bring your own party snacks! On Tuesday, Sept. 14th, the library will be holding a Roald Dahl party to celebrate his birthday (he would have been 94). Dress like your favorite character! Party starts at 6:30pm, ages 2 and up. Registration IS required, so please call 770/431-2860 x 3 or email Laura at lboynton@ci.smyrna.ga.us to reserve your space. On Thursday, Sept. 23rd from 6:30 to 8:30pm, there will be a Roald Dahl book discussion for 2nd - 5th graders (registration required). And finally, on Friday, Sept. 24th at 3:30pm, "Charlie & the Chocolate Factory" will be shown at 3:30. Again, bring your own sweet treats!

 

The Smyrna Library is located at 100 Village Green Circle. All events are free for library patrons. City residents who do not currently have a library card may bring in proof of residency to the circulation desk. Non-residents are welcome to purchase a library card.

Donate new or gently worn children’s sweaters to benefit the Children’s Restoration Network, which supports homeless children in shelters and group homes. Mr. Rogers’-inspired sweater collection boxes will be located at the Center for Puppetry Arts from Sept. 10 through the end of the month. Sweater donations can also be made at the Atlantic Station Artist’s Market on Sept. 11 and 18 between 11am and 3pm; those who donate a sweater at this location will not only be helping out a child in need, they’ll also receive discount coupons from Atlantic Station retailers as well as a coupon to see a show at the Center.

Bring your appetite to the 2010 Taste of Kennesaw. More than 40 local restaurants will be on hand to showcase their delicious creations. Live music on two entertainment stages. Bring the kids for activities ncluding a rock wall, inflatables and slides, a trackless train, and more. The event benefits 4 local charities including Shop with a Mustang (Kennesaw Mountain High School), Shop with a Warrior (North Cobb High School), MUST Ministries, and the Jerry Worthan Community Christmas Fund. The Strand and Atlanta Lyric Theatre co-present a free "Glee" viewing party, a musical comedy-drama focusing on a high school show choir called "New Directions." The premier airs at 8 PM. Piedmont Park Conservancy invites Atlanta’s four legged citizens to an end of season pool party – the 2nd Annual Splish Splash Doggie Bash. Let your pooches cool off in the pool at Piedmont Park. Peanut Butter Apple Snacks


Healthy Macaroni Kids!

Apple slices with peanut butter make for a great snack. In this version, try regular peanut butter, soy nut butter, or homemade chocolate peanut butter to top apple slices, and then sprinkle granola over them for a sweet and savory snack that's healthy too.

 

Ingredients:

2 apples

3-4 Tbsp. peanut butter, chocolate peanut butter or chocolate soy nut butter

2 Tbsp. granola

 

Directions:

Wash and core apples.

Slice crosswise into 1/4-inch slices.

Spread nut butter over apple slices.

Sprinkle granola over top.
