"The Sound of Music" is set in Austria in the late 1930’s, immediately prior to the Nazi invasion. Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic musical tells the story of Maria, a high-spirited nun novitiate, whose enthusiasm for life is both admired and resented by the nuns at the Abbey. The Mother Abbess receives a request from widowed Naval Officer, Captain Von Trapp, to find a Governess for his seven children. She decides this is an ideal opportunity for Maria to experience life in the outside world before taking her final vows.

The original Broadway production of "The Sound of Music" won eight Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Score. The 1965 movie starring Julie Andrews received five Academy Awards including Best Picture and has become the most popular movie musical ever made.

This presentation is produced by Atlanta’s Theater of the Stars. Audiences will be captivated by Mandy Bruno as the irrepressible novitiate (“nun in training”) Maria.  Mandy received an Emmy nomination for her role as Marina Cooper on the CBS soap opera, “The Guiding Light.” On Broadway she starred as Eponine in "Les Misérables" and was featured in Patti Lupone’s "Gypsy."  Burke Moses stars as the stern, yet compassionate Captain Von Trapp. After debuting on Broadway as Sky Masterson in "Guys and Dolls," he went on to create the role of Gaston in the Broadway, Los Angeles, and London productions of Disney’s mega-hit "Beauty and the Beast."
