Beat the Heat! Stay Cool This Summer

Fountains, Cheap Movies, Bowling and more!

June 6, 2012
Our unusual weather continues, and it hasn't been particularly hot yet...but the heat's coming I'm sure. Of course to stay cool you could simply stay indoors. Or try any number of things listed on the Macaroni Kid List - from library events to museum exhibits. But here are some of my top picks for ways to stay cool this summer (most of which are FREE except for Six Flags White Water - they have a great deal on Season Passes right now -and the new Geyser Towers at Stone Mountain Park). What do you do to stay cool and beat the heat?

Centennial Park Fountain of Rings - The Fountain of Rings is the centerpiece of Centennial Olympic Park and is one of the most recognized and photographed landmarks in Georgia. Millions of international and local guests visit the Park every year to enjoy the world’s largest interactive fountain featuring the Olympic Ring symbol. Spash and play to keep cool all day! There are always families there enjoying the fountain. Except during showtime - it’s free to view the Fountain of Rings show (with music), which happens four times a day, 365 days a year, at 12:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Piedmont Park Legacy Fountain - The Promenade boasts the new Legacy Fountain (it opened last year) and two grand meadows, with views of the new wetlands and woodlands. The fountain features more than 70 jets, reaching up to 30 feet in the air and magnificent LED-lighting, capable of showcasing more than 1 million lighting configurations. Splash and play all day! Please put swim diapers on babies and toddlers! Fountain Hours of Operation: 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Six Flags White Water - Six Flags White Water (Marietta) is the largest waterpark in the South with 50 attractions, one of the world's tallest free-falls, and tons of great family rides and play areas. Enjoy Cliffhanger, Tornado, Little Squirt's Island, and much more. Now open daily through August 12th. DISCOUNTED SEASON PASSES THROUGH JUNE 17th - Get 2 for $99 (regular price for one visit for anyone 48" and up is $37.99, so it's a deal!) With your season pass you also get a booklet with free tickets for friends on select days, and other park savings coupons. I got ours! Can't wait to go.

Geyser Towers at Stone Mountain Park
Brand new to Stone Mountain Park is Geyser Towers. Multiple levels of suspended rope bridges and net tunnels connect you to towering platforms that overlook the gushing geyser. With its sporadic eruptions and multiple offshoots, you can play in the spray or stay high and dry. The options, and the fun, are all yours. As an option for the littlest guests, toddlers can splash in a trickling creek while mom and dad relax in the shade.
