Balloonatiks: The Collector’s Set, a special collector’s edition DVD, features 2 episodes, "Meet Deflator" and "Pop Goes the Balloonatiks." Filmed with impressive CGI animation, "Balloonatiks: The Collector’s Set," is a long-awaited addition to The Balloonatiks extensive catalog, which already includes two paperbacks, a series of comics and games, and an interactive website.
The Balloonatiks centers on five ordinary teens mysteriously transformed into rubbery and bouncy balloons, each gifted with incredible abilities from their unique personalities. Flator, the school jock, is able to grow to massive sizes. Airbrain, the smartest kid in school, can use his giant head as a hot air balloon. Squeeker, the pretty and popular cheerleader, uses her high-pitched cheers to paralyze the bad guys. Sparky, the multi-tasking and multi-talented activist of the group can stop opponents in their tracks with lightning bolts. Bouncer, the class clown and food lover, can transform himself into any kind of ball and bounce to amazing heights. The Balloonatiks also features a strong cast of supporting characters including Leaky, the frog-turned balloon mascot, Professor Swellhead, mentor and creator of the Balloonatiks, and Dr. Popemoff, the evil mad-scientist out to take over Hot Air City.
Both episodes are fun and if your kids like superheroes and balloons, they'll likely love Balloonatiks. In the second episode, Bouncer plays a joke on Flator, turning him into a whoopee cushion. It's harmless fun, but if you are opposed to "Whoopee Cushion" type humor, then this is your heads up. Still, this is appropriate for ages 5 plus, in my opinion!
