NO NEW EDITION THIS WEEK BUT EVENT SECTION IS BEING UPDATED.....(8/8/12)
Insert sad face.
I LOVE summer break. Apparently just as much as a parent as I did as a child. Possibly because we get to sleep later (we're late sleepers in this house)! But mostly because there's always something fun to do, schedules tend to be a little more flexible, and well, I can take the heat (but not the cold).
Tonight I was supposed to be on a plane to Copenhagen, for a cruise through Northern Europe with my family. (Insert sad face again). But as you can see (read), I'm not on a plane to Denmark. Things happen....and unfortunately this trip had to be canceled. Hopefully we'll be able to reschedule for another amazing destination before too long.
The good news, however, is I'm relieved that I'll be home for the first day of school - that part was upsetting me a bit. And, next week, my vacation has become a staycation - mommy camp with the kids for the last week of summer.
All those things we didn't check off our summer bucket list - well, we're going to see how much we can accomplish next week. Without completely overdoing it! I'm taking Jack to see Cathy Rigby is Peter Pan
at the Fox; we're going to visit Fernbank Museum of Natural History
and The World of Coca-Cola
; I have unused Living Social vouchers for horseback riding, and batting cages - the list is plenty long. But if I'm not out of the house, I'm working, so we need to be out as much as possible!
I may publish a mini-edition next week - or I may just update the events - I know most everyone is busy with "Back To School" planning. Check in for updates and visit us on Facebook too.
I've thoroughly enjoyed watching The Olympics this past week - and for the first time I've gotten Drew engaged in actually watching sports. Both kids love it. So I'm trying to get this edition out to watch my DVR'd version of the Olympics, which are already on tape-delay. I've had to steer clear of Facebook, twitter and the news this week so as not to see the results before prime-time. Technology has its downsides...
In honor of the Olympics, you can enter this week to win a Family Guest Pass
to the Atlanta History Center, which houses the Centennial Olympic Games Museum
. They are having an Olympic event for kids on August 11th...
If you need a night out with friends, enter to win a table for SIX at Chastain Park to see Big Bad Voodoo Daddy
on August 17th. Such a fun outing!
If your kids need to get their groove on, enter to win the brand new Kidz Bop 22
Or, simply look through the event listings if you're in need of activities. The first week of the month is always a busy one! Smyrna is having its annual birthday celebration with fireworks on Satuday night and the Smyrna Library Frozen Yogurt Social and Book Sale is Sunday
. The Braves
also have fireworks on Friday, plus it's Star Wars Night
, and Ultimate Kids Day
on Sunday. The options are pretty endless!
WINNERS! Congrats to the winners of last week's giveaways:
Rebekah J. won the tickets to Macaroni Kid Day at Medieval Times; Jackie G. won tickets to see The Addams Family at the Fox on Aug. 16th; and a group of you won passes to Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days
- hope you enjoyed the movie!
Time to watch the Olympics. Enjoy these last days of summer vacation!PS: Don't forget there are articles AFTER the event listings. Who knew you could make brownies with zucchini? CLICK HERE to see this recipe!
