What's For Lunch? School Daze.....

Your Weekly Events & Activities Newsletter for Smyrna, Vinings, Marietta & Beyond

August 15, 2012
(Written at 4pm this afternoon, just in case you were wondering...) As I sit here with my caffeine-free Coke, I wonder, can I make it past 7:15pm tonight? That's when I fell asleep last night - in Jack's bed. He was telling me bedtime stories, and I guess they did the trick! Unfortunately I woke up a little after 9pm to find both boys downstairs, wide awake. What's up with that?

Clearly I'm having a harder time adjusting to the school schedule than my boys. Drew's ready to go in the morning...he even wants to take the bus, despite the fact that we have to leave our house before 7am to get to the bus stop  (you have to understand that a week ago, my boys were sleeping 'til 10 or later!). Jack's not quite as easy...I've tried music and buzzer alarms and nothing wakes him. Well, actually this morning it apparently did, and he told me he turned it off because it was ANNOYING him. It takes some kind of bribe to get him out of bed - luckily he doesn't have to be at Pre-K until 8:30ish. We have some work to do though (see article below on a MORNING CHECKLIST).

I'm going to have to find a way to get past the 4pm sleepies and make it 'til at least 10pm, but not later than 11:30pm. Oh the pressure! I tweeted #notamorningperson as a joke the other day, and then realized it was quite a popular hashtag! (Most of the tweeters seemed to be high-school aged kids though...big surprise!)

Despite the schedule change, the boys have been happy to be back at school. They both seem to be adjusting to new teachers and classmates well. Soon we'll be inundated with homework, special projects, baseball practice and more, so I'm enjoying that this week is pretty leisurely.

WHAT'S FOR LUNCH?

One of my biggest challenges with Drew is that he's an extremely picky eater when it comes to lunch. Much like his mom was all the way through high school....he doesn't like sandwiches (unless it's a hamburger). And while he loves vegetables, he only likes them cooked. Packing a lunch is tough - so we read the school menu together and decide what days he'll eat from the school cafeteria. For the other days, I'm left trying to be creative with rolled up deli turkey and roast beef; nutella and crackers; yogurt, chips, and not much else.

So I have two questions:

1) If you have a picky eater, what do you pack for lunch?
2) And if you have one, where's the best place to get a Bento Box?  I haven't seen too many that excite me....

Would love some creative lunch suggestions. I'm sure I'm not alone in this! Might be time to head over to Pinterest...

Moving on, after an off-week, SVM Macaroni Kid is back. I'll be making some changes to the site over the next month with new feature articles and, hopefully, a somewhat updated look!

First up - If you're an independent consultant or know someone in this area who is, be sure to read my article below about our upcoming consultant guide. I've gotten great feedback already, but there are plenty of companies out there I'd love to have represented here - Avon, Willow House, Happy Family, Rodan + Fields, etc. For many of you, you could join a team and become a consultant yourself. But having this handy guide will also provide an easy way for you to shop!

There's more to come and I"ll keep you posted on additional updates! Thanks for supporting Macaroni Kid and good luck to everyone with school-aged kids!
