Summer Break Comes To An End - Enjoy This Week, Cobb County Families!

Smyrna Vinings Marietta Macaroni Kid - Your Weekly Events & Activities Newsletter

July 23, 2014
We're still "camping" in our new house, but all that will change next week when we move over the rest of our furniture - just in time for school to start (Cobb County public schools anyway - some of you may have a little more time). I miss the three month summer vacations we had when I was a child - getting out of school in May and going back after Labor Day. We had longer school days, but I really loved those breaks. Of course, there's something to be said for a routine, and for parents who work, the summer break can be a challenge. But this year I do feel a bit cheated. I guess it just went by way too fast.  We're not earlybirds in this family either, so we are all dreading the 6:30am wakeup call soon to come. Oh those middle school kids are lucky!

I'd planned on putting a cute "end of summer photo" of my kids, lounging outside in the swing, up to lead off this article. Alas with all the rain this week I never got to take that photo!  The good new is, summer is by no means over, and we'll still have plenty of opportunities to hang out at the pool, play outside in sprinklers (or with waterguns) and enjoy the long daylight hours.  I just have to get everyone - myself included - to bed earlier!

In addition to our big move next week, I'm trying to squeeze in some outdoor fun - so rain, rain go away!! We're hoping to go to Atlanta Botanical Garden this weekend, visit Six Flags and Hurricane Harbour next week, and maybe get to Stone Mountain as well.  Mother Nature hopefully will cooperate!

If it doesn't, the boys might want to go back to Sparkles Kennesaw - we had a party there last weekend (on a miserably rainy day) and they had an awesome time! 3D Laser Tag was a hit, and the indoor play area (for kids under 10) is always fun. While my own kids were too busy playing games to skate, most of their friends did! And I was quite impressed with some adults who put on their skates and raced - it felt like we were watching the short track at the Olympics. CLICK HERE to visit the Sparkles Kennesaw website and see what specials they have going on - there are a LOT of them. Plus on select days, Kids Skate FREE!

I hope everyone has had a fabulous break with their kids, some great vacations and many stories to share. We still have some shopping to do - luckily clothes are easy with my boys. But I'm still in search of an elusive orange "wide-ruled" spiral notebook.  Must be the "in" color this year.

It's TBD if I'll be publishing a new edition next week - I'm hoping to enjoy these last vacation days as much as possible, and with the move on top of it, it's likely you won't see another edition of SVM Macaroni Kid until early August.

Stay up to date with events on Facebook though, and I'll still add things to this edition either way!

* Speaking of Facebook, we didn't have any giveaways in the online / email edition last week, however I did do a Facebook only giveaway of 4 tickets to the Center for Puppetry Arts! Congrats to Melissa M., who is going to see "Guyi, Guyi" this weekend.  You never know when we might have a surprise giveaway!!
