Art Museum Hosts Chalk Festival: 40+ National Chalk Artists, Public Chalk Competition & More

October 9, 2014
On October 11 and 12, 2014, Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art will present its annual Marietta ChalkFest, a chalk art festival that will take place around Marietta Square and down Atlanta Street in front of Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art.

This year, ChalkFest has been expanded to feature over 40 contracted, professional chalk artists from around the country, who will draw in front of spectators during October 11 and October 12 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Featured artists include renowned chalk artists Nate Baranowski, Jennifer Chaparro, Dorothy Sabean, Willie Zin and more. All works created during ChalkFest will be completed at the end of Sunday, October 12. Admission to Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art will be free during Marietta ChalkFest. The Chatov Retrospective: 100 Years of Painting and Atlanta Fine Arts League exhibitions will also be on display inside the museum during Marietta ChalkFest.

On Saturday, October 11, artists of all ages are invited to participate in the annual juried chalk competition. Participants will have the opportunity to create original chalk works in randomly selected sidewalk squares. 2014 will offer both a youth division and an adult division: Prizes in the adult division will total over $250 in cash prizes and prizes in the youth division total $50 in gift cards. Interested participants can contact the Education Director at 770 528 1444 x16, Education@MariettaCobbArtMuseum.org

The festival will also include a concert in the park featuring live music performed by Prime. “We are excited to be hosting another chalk event for the city of Marietta”, says Sally Macaulay, Executive Director of Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art. “This year will be even better because ChalkFest has expanded and grown so much since last year. The streets will literally come alive with art.”
