2015 EXPLORATION EXPO IS MARCH 28!

The Atlanta Science Festival wants you to bring the whole family out for the 2015 Exploration Expo, the metro area’s largest single-day interactive science event, to explore the world of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM).

The Expo on Saturday, March 28 is a free event open to adults, families, and children being held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Centennial Olympic Park. The event will promote science exploration, discovery and innovation with more than 100 interactive exhibits, hands-on experiments, mind-blowing demos, and a full line-up of live science-themed performances—plus so much more.

“Last year’s Exploration Expo was wildly successful and attracted more than 16,000 people to our great city to engage in hands-on science in a fun, highly interactive environment,” said Monya Ruffin, Ph.D., chairman of the Exploration Expo and senior scientist at Emory University. “We are thrilled to again offer this family-friendly signature event to cap off a wonderful eight-day celebration of science. It is wonderful to see the tremendous support from so many local universities, businesses and community organizations who recognize the importance of this type of event for our area and have gotten behind the Expo – many for a second year – in an even bigger way this year!”

Among the new features added to enhance the Expo experience for this year:

  • Attendees can more easily plan their day with five new zones for exhibits:           Discover, Invent, Encounter, Thrive and Play
  • Visitors can have a keep-sake caricature drawn of themselves as a scientist.
  • Professional and collegiate cheerleaders studying or working in STEM fields will promote citizen science projects throughout the day.
  • The Kids Science Pavilion will showcase fun science projects that children and their families can do at home.

As with last year’s event, schools will also get a chance to win $400 to enhance science education for their classrooms (i.e. supplies, field trips, professional development, afterschool programs, etc.) During the Expo, students can check-in at the Information Booth and fill out a card to register their class to win. Ten schools will be selected at random to receive a $400 award made in honor of the student and teacher whose card was selected.

About the Atlanta Science Festival

The second annual Atlanta Science Festival is a weeklong celebration of local science and technology that culminates with an all-day interactive Exploration Expo at Centennial Olympic Park. Scientists, experts and educators from local schools, colleges, universities, museums and corporations will uncover mysteries and explain discoveries in hands-on activities, facility tours, stimulating presentations, and riveting performances at venues across the city. Our mission is to celebrate the inherent integration of STEM/STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) in our lives today, share the impact they have on our community, and inspire us all to wonder about our future. The Festival, which runs March 21-28, is produced by a collaboration of science, cultural, and educational institutions, led by Emory University, Georgia Institute of Technology and the Metro Atlanta Chamber.
