Kicking Off Summer Vacation at Six Flags Over Georgia

THE JOKER & Harley Quinn Spinsanity are Two New Rides Open for the 2015 Season

By Michelle Sisco May 28, 2015
What a way to start off summer break! Last Friday, May 22, we were invited to Six Flags Over Georgia for Media Day, as the park unveiled two new rides in Gotham City - THE JOKER Chaos Coaster and Harley Quinn Spinsanity.  (Check out the WHAT'S NEW page on the Six Flags Website.) There was so much excitement at the park when we arrived just before 11am. Many VIP guests had arrived early to ride THE JOKER before it officially opened to the public. You know who did - because they were all sporting special t-shirts to commemorate their ride.

Here's the thing - I don't ride roller coasters (once upon a time I could be convinced...). My 10-year-old won't go near them. My seven-year-old is the brave one. When he was five, he rode the Mindbender coaster five times in a row!  This time he wasn't as interested. So with that said, I can't give you a review of THE JOKER. All I can tell you is that everyone who was riding it seemed to be having a blast.

THE JOKER Chaos Coaster joins BATMAN™: The Ride and Mind Bender roller coasters in Gotham City and features:

·         A “face-off” unique seating pattern, as the train’s twenty-four riders begin their journey;
·         The train rocketing up seven stories high;
·         A glide, both forward and backward, through a bedlam of loops;
·         A suspended upside down roll, 72 feet in the air, for a ravaging thrill.

Also debuting is Harley Quinn Spinsanity, which sends riders spinning, twisting and rolling through a cycle of classic family-fun. BATMANTM: The Ride, inspired by DC Comics’ iconic Super Hero, will continue sending its riders backward through 2,700 feet of track at speeds of 50 miles per hour until later this spring.

Since extreme thrill rides aren't my kids' thing, they were very happy to try out the new Harley Quinn Spinsanity  (see photos below). This is a classic ride - not scary, but you might get dizzy! They loved it.

I imagine one day soon they'll both be riding the thrill rides. But for now we still had plenty to keep us busy and fill our day!

The water rides are always our favorites - and hence we cannot wait to go to Six Flags White Water this season!   The kids love Splashwater Falls...both riding it, and standing on the bridge to get splashed!  Thunder River - my personal favorite, was closed that morning so we didn't get a chance to do that.  And the traditional log flume near the park's entrance is another family favorite. You just can't go wrong with water rides in the summer heat.

Our favorite thing at Six Flags over Georgia is actually Hurricane Harbor. There aren't nearly as many slides there as there are at White Water, but you could easily spend your entire day there. Hurricane Harbor in itself is a great reason to purchase a season pass.  Check out this photo (courtesy of Six Flags).

Cool off in the giant 38,000 square foot wave pool; dare to take a ride on the Tsunami Surge; ride the bonzai pipelines.  My kids could also spend all day at the Paradise Island water playground - there are numerous slides, opportunities to climb, and have massive buckets of water dumped on you. Every kid's dream...

What's great about Hurricane Harbor is that you can ride your thrill rides to your heart's content - then head over to cool off in the wave pool and enjoy some slide time. The lines in the water park are generally much shorter than they are for the major rides at the park, and that makes it particularly appealing.

Now we didn't spend all day at Hurricane Harbor.  My kids still love the Hanson Cars. Because they get to drive, of course. We rode those several times. We also road the Dahlonega Mine Train - one of my favorites since I was a kid. And it's a roller coaster, but if you're afraid of heights, this is one you can handle. Just protect your neck! It's a rickety ride!

The boys, of course, also love all the carnival games at the park. This is one thing we tend to argue about. For one, we just don't need any more giant stuffed animals in our house! But also they are pricey, and it's hard to justify when you have so many other things to do at the park that are included with admission. So my deal with the kids is that if they want to play games, they pay. Luckily, they both won a prize so no one was unhappy with that arrangement. And I'm very happy Drew won a Univ. of North Carolina basketball - that was actually quite a deal!

If you plan to visit Six Flags more than once this season (which includes October Fright Fest® and even the Holiday in the Park® wintertime celebration, which begins in November) you absolutely should invest in a season pass. See the deals below and get yours while they are on sale!

We had an awesome day at Six Flags Over Georgia....our next stop is White Water. Drew says he'll be trying out the New Dive Bomber. I have my doubts...
