Jar Pies

December 3, 2009

These mini-pies  are great for teacher gifts, dinner parties and even to freeze for another time!

You will need:

A dozen 4 oz jelly jars

Pie Crust

Favorite Pie Filling

Put filling in to about 3/4ths of an inch below the top. This way you'll have enough room to put the top layer of crust on and press the edges together.

Place top on your mini pie and make sure you put at least 2 hole (designs) on the top layer to avoid volcano effect.

Fold over and crimp the edges as best you can, it's pretty difficult in such a small jar.

Place on cookie sheet.  You may want to use a silpat to keep them from sliding.  Please note they will SLIDE on tray so please be careful.

Bake at 350 degrees until the bottom of the crust is browning, an advantage of baking in a glass container. The top may bubble up....but is very cute.

Putting a Silpat on your baking sheet keeps the little jars from sliding around when you remove them from the oven

Cherry held up better than apple as a filling with enough flavor to stand out in such a small amount.
