Fun at Snow Mountain at Stone Mountain Park!

Plus, Christmas Activities at Stone Mountain Christmas!

December 6, 2012
Last Sunday, when the temperature reached a warm and sunny 70 degrees, we visited Snow Mountain at Stone Mountain Park! What better activity for a warm December day!  Just kidding - there was plenty of snow, and I'd rather play in short sleeves than in multiple layers any day! Take it while you can - I doubt these temperatures will hang around for too much longer. Anyway, we were guests of the park, and were also treated to Stone Mountain Christmas activities. It was a very busy day!

If you haven't been to Snow Mountain, make sure to visit the website by CLICKING HERE to get a real feel for the experience.  If you only plan on tubing, you actually barely get "wet" so snow pants aren't necessary. I'd stlll recommend something waterproof on a cold day, but don't go running all over Atlanta in search of real snow/ski pants! That said, if you plan on spending a good amount of time in the Snow Zone, you'll want more waterproof gear. After all, it may not be REAL snow, but it IS snow, and it's cold and wet! Gloves and boots, at the very least, are highly recommended.

I expected we'd spend much of our time tubing, but much to my surprise, the kids wanted to spend more time in the Snow Zone. Both had a blast at the Snowball Shootin' Gallery. My action shots didn't come out well, but as you can tell, Drew's awfully happy here. That baseball practice has paid off! He was hitting every target.

Jack had a great time building his own snowman in "Snowman Valley." Give him (or her!) a name, a face and even a snow "suit." Check out the snow closet for everything you need to make the snowman of your dreams - from crazy hats to silly scarves!

Also in the snow area - become snow builders in the Snow Zone's very own Igloo City. Construct a fort, make a tower, dig a tunnel or build a city. The attendants help make your cool creation come to life! And for kids 3 and under, Little Angels is the perfect spot for small ones just starting to find their snow legs. SnoBoggans on smaller snow hills lets them experience tubing at their level. (I had to convince my kids they were TOO BIG for this hill!).

Snow tubing was a blast. We went down Avalanche Alley first - the four of us together in one tube. Reminded me of a ride at WhiteWater! Loved seeing the kids faces as they went down the steepest part of the hill! Avalanche Alley is Atlanta's only snow-covered 400-foot tubing hill and is a first-of-its kind family tube ride.

But, after one trip, the kids wanted to go on their own tubes (you must be 42" to ride alone). So off they went. These rides were a little bumpier (though less steep) and you did get slightly wet. But it was fun! Here's Jack ready to go!

And then he's off!

We had ice cream on this warm day! But when the weather cools down, enjoy SnoFire Point. Roast s'mores and drink hot chocolate (other snacks available too).

Since we don't get many opportunities to play in the snow in Atlanta, take your kids to Snow Mountain for some winter weather fun! CLICK HERE to purchase tickets online. You can also purchase a combo pass if you'd like to experience Stone Mountain Christmas too.

We were tired from our snow adventures but did have some "Christmas fun". The Polar Express 4-D Experience was great fun (prepare for a ride!). See Santa and friends in the Crossroads Christmas Parade (then visit with Santa if you choose!) and enjoy the beauty of Stone Mountain lit up for the holidays.  We didn't have time to ride the Singalong Train this year, but if your kids love trains, this fun 40-minute ride is a must! New to the park is the beautiful Snow Angel - Kids can meet her (and the tin soldiers) in her snow palace. And afterwards, they might want to do some cookie decorating too. If you can stay through dinner and make a full night of it, then the Snow Angel Fireworks Finale is for you. And there's more - a variety of live shows, putt-putt, fun in the Great Barn...

Stone Mountain Christmas is "open" through January 1st so get there before it's too late. You have more time for Snow Mountain - ride through February 18th! Want to purchase a COMBO pass? CLICK HERE for more information!
