WIN a $50 Gift Card to Mi Cocina in Midtown!

Delicious Tex-Mex Will Appeal To All Ages

By Michelle Sisco July 31, 2013
A few weeks ago we were treated to a wonderful dinner at Mi Cocina in Midtown. If you're looking for a new Mexican (specifically Tex-Mex) restaurant to try, this is one that should definitely be on your list! SVM Macaroni Kid has a $50 Gift Card to give away to one lucky subscriber! Scroll down to see how you can enter to win it!

Mi Cocina has something for everyone. The décor is not at all Mexican – it’s new and modern to fit its midtown location. But if you like to people watch, you can dine on the patio outside on Peachtree Street – also a great option if you are bringing the kids.

We went for dinner on a Saturday night and there was a lot happening! From families eating on the patio, to a table of women obviously enjoying a girls night out, to a younger crowd who started to come in as we were leaving around 8:30 – both the menu and environment appeal to all types. And for a restaurant that looks so upscale, the prices are incredibly reasonable.

Mi Cocina (My Kitchen) opened its first location in Dallas in 1991. The uniquely upscale Tex-Mex restaurant has an emphasis on using only the freshest, highest quality ingredients complemented by warm, friendly and professional service. As word spread, a second location in Dallas was opened two years later.

Now Mi Cocina boasts close to 20 restaurants in Texas, but the midtown Atlanta location is the first in Georgia. That said, by no means should you consider this a "chain-style restaurant". Mi Cocina feels local, and the food is fantastic.
Mi Cocina serves traditional Tex-Mex cuisine using the freshest, finest ingredients available. Every menu item is hand crafted and made fresh daily in the kitchen - rice, beans, salsa, tortillas, chips - everything is fresh, never frozen.

Dinner entrees start as low as $8.95 – you can’t beat that! And the portions are tremendous. CLICK HERE to take a look at the varied menu. Sure, you can order traditional fajitas, but there are a lot of unique items as well worth considering.

We started by sampling the Ceviche de Camarones. Honestly, this was my favorite item by far. It’s listed as an appetizer, but you could easily have it as an entrée – the shrimp, avocado and lime were SO fresh and delicious! Even Jack liked it, and he’s only five. And at $8.95, it’s a bargain. I’ll definitely be going back just for this dish!

Another hit were the tacos – my husband ordered the Tacos Mi Tierra  (only $14.95). It doesn’t get much better than this - "Street Style" – Soft Corn Tortillas topped with diced, grilled Fajita Beef, Serranos and Onions served with Guacamole and Pico de Gallo.

I thoroughly enjoyed (despite being full from the ceviche) my Enchiladas de Pollo con Mole. The Mole sauce has a traditional chocolate flavor – something I wish every Mexican restaurant served!  Also the refried beans were fabulous – another hit with my kids, who can be VERY picky when it comes to their beans & rice!

Want a margarita? There are more than a dozen on the menu to choose from and a very long list of tequilas should you wish to create your own.

But back to the kids…kid's meals are a steal at $5.99. Look for the “Para Los Ninos” section on the menu. Picky eaters will be happy with a cheese quesadilla. But there are plenty other options including burritos, tacos and more (with rice & beans, and other vegetables too!). I’ll admit my boys were CRANKY when we arrived, and I was worried. But wow did their moods change when they started eating. They truly loved Mi Cocina!

Mi Cocina also offers an $8.95 lunch menu, and even a fantastic-looking brunch menu!

Finally, two new light summer menu offerings were recently added:
  • The Quinceanera Salad combines chopped romaine hearts, tomato, avocado, cucumber, and mango and is topped with almonds and a chile-lime vinaigrette dressing. To take it up a notch, add your choice of chicken, shrimp, steak or salmon.
  • The Salmon a la Parilla is a grilled-to-perfection salmon fillet with an agave-guajillo glaze served with Mexican slaw.
Located close to Center for Puppetry Arts, The High Museum of Art, Atlanta Botanical Garden and more, consider bringing the entire family to Mi Cocina for lunch or dinner before or after visiting the attractions. You won’t be disappointed!
