This was quite a special holiday gift, courtesy of Camelio! We were sent one of their new android family tablets to review - and my kids (and husband) are simply thrilled!
As an iPad / iPhone user, it's taken me time to get used to using an android device (most specifically I keep searching for the app store!). Of course, my children, tech savvy as they are, haven't had any problems whatsoever navigating their way around. And having another device in the house is wonderful - I don't have to give mine up all the time, plus this one is GEARED for kids and families. With a price point of only $100, you don't have to worry nearly as much about damage as you would with an iPad. I guess that's why, in part, it's actually called a FAMILY tablet.
The Camelio, featuring Android 4.1 (JellyBean), is the first fully customizable 7" Android device is perfect for children and their parents. The tablet that allows you to customize and personalize it with your favorite characters! Up to 5 users can easily create their own profile and customize their account with Camelio “Personality Packs” (sold separately for about $30). Personality packs include Hello Kitty, Hot Wheels (what we have), Monster High, My Little Pony, WWF, as well as more grown-up options. Each includes a tablet case, as well as a special code that unlocks branded content such as videos, music, books, wallpapers and widgets designed around the theme pack. Up to five users can share the device with each customized theme displayed automatically upon sign in, and Personality Packs can be changed or updated as children grow and their interests change. (See the Hot Wheels Case in the main article image - it's sturdy!, and then the screen appearance below).
We also received a Hello Kitty Personality Pack, but with no girls in our family, I'm going to do a giveaway on Facebook and offer that to one of you! Of course you need the Camelio tablet in order for it to work!
The Camelio is equipped with all of the features parents have come to expect from a family tablet; built in Wi fi, a camera, HD Video, touch screen and parental controls, plus lots of pre-loaded content for apps, games, music, video, art and other educational tools.
My favorite pre-loaded app is the MeeGenius reading App. Both my kids love to read on tablets, and MeeGenius provides around 10 FREE books (with read-to-me or read alone options) plus access to a bookstore where additional books can be purchased for as low as $2.99.
The boys love to play games like checkers and chess on the tablet. Of course my husband is the one addicted to Candy Crush!
With the Camelio, you can download thousands of free (and paid) games from Google Play. And if you enjoy streaming TV, you can watch Netflix too (granted the quality is not HD like some devices, but I don't really think that's necessary in a tablet for kids).
Visit the Camelio website at www.cameliotablet.com for more information. You can find Camelio online (and likely in store) at Walmart, Target and on Amazon.com.
* I received a complimentary Camelio Tablet and Personality Pack for the purpose of this review. Opinions, however, are my own.
