VarageSale Launches Virtual Garage Sale App in Georgia

Plus, See How VarageSale is Partnering with the Georgia PTA to Raise Money For Local Schools!

By Michelle Sisco October 8, 2015
We moved into our new home just over a year ago - and unfortunately we still have a garage full of things that need to either be stored - or sold! Plus, not only did we downsize by a couple of rooms (and that can make a world of difference when you have kids), but the boys are getting older. That means they are outgrowing both toys AND clothes. Often clothes that have barely been worn. I desperately need to declutter, and I've done quite a lot of donating to local charities already. But I'd also like to try to sell some of what we have - especially items in great condition!

Personally, I've never had a lot of luck with garage sales. Not to mention, sitting outside all day waiting for people to drop by and try to negotiate me down to a $1 for a piece of furniture just isn't my thing. And, finding a day to actually HAVE a garage sale is a challenge with our busy weekend schedules!

I've bought and sold occasionally through local Facebook group pages, and that can work. But when I learned about the VarageSale app and downloaded it, I realized it was SO much more user-friendly. You can easily track the items you have listed for sale, find all your transactions AND search for specific items too (love this!).

Now that the sun is finally out, I'm ready to open up my garage, take a LOT of photos, and start selling - virtually.  In the process, I'm sure I might be buying items as well. It's getting cooler outside and I know my kids are both in need of some new winter gear!

WHAT EXACTLY IS VARAGESALE?

VarageSale is a free social marketplace app that allows families to buy and sell affordable secondhand items in their neighborhoods. VarageSale has just launched 10 new communities in Georgia and is now available in local neighborhoods statewide. VarageSale is free to use at VarageSale.com and on the mobile app, which is available on iOS andAndroid devices.

WHY USE VARAGESALE?

  • Buy items at a fraction of the retail price
  • Make money by decluttering your home and selling unused items
  • Shop with confidence by browsing member profiles to see real names and photos which have been vetted by local admins
  • Get to know your neighbors in a fun, social environment

AND THE SURVEY SAYS:

500 Georgia parents were surveyed about their shopping and spending habits, and here are some interesting results! Among them, it showed that most parents have no problem buying secondhand items to save money. Plus, it seems most toys never even get played with - o

HOW IT WORKS! START BUYING AND SELLING NOW!

  • First, users should download the VarageSale app for iPhone or Android or visit www.varagesale.com  (the app is super easy to use - though I also posted a couple items today directly through the website)
  • Users sign up for free with Facebook Connect and ask to join the community closest to them. (FB Connect allows us to know that you are a real person and to populate your VarageSale profile with your real name and photo to ensure our communities remain trusted and friendly)
  • A community admin will review their request and accept them usually that same day.
  • Once accepted, users can buy or sell items and communicate with other members.
  • To buy an item, you can comment on it and send a private message to the seller to work out the details such as when and where to meet.
  • To sell an item, you can take a photo with the app, write a description of the item, choose a category, set a price and post all generally in less than 30 seconds.

VARAGESALE WANTS TO SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SCHOOL'S PTA!

VarageSale was founded by former elementary school teacher Tami Zuckerman, so the company makes supporting education and families a priority. To celebrate its grand opening in Georgia, VarageSale is partnering with the Georgia Parent Teacher Association with the goal of raising up to $400,000 to fund PTAs at local schools!

For a limited time during their Georgia launch (through Nov. 26, 2015), VarageSale will donate $10 to a local PTA each time a new user signs up and posts an item for sale. To participate, search for your school HERE.  Find your school's unique code, post an item and simply include the code in your item's description! Want to help at no cost to you? It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3!

1. Find your school’s unique hashtag here: pta.varagesale.com
2. Download the FREE app and join a VarageSale community in Georgia.
3. Post an item, and include the hashtag in the item’s description.
