Cobb County Fall Break Is Here

It's a Good Week to.....

September 17, 2015
If you have a child in Cobb County Public Schools, odds are you are fully aware that there is NO school next week.  If you don't, and you see a bunch of kids running around and want to report them - well, now you know what the deal is.  Of course, if your kids are in private school, or if you are in a different county, the same schedule may not apply.

Anyway, for those not going to Orlando (because it seems like most of Cobb County flees to Orlando during fall break), or you don't have some other trip already planned, here are just a few ideas for you to stay busy! And it's not too late to jump in a car for a last minute adventure. We just decided to go to Chattanooga for a couple days. Should be beautiful this time of year!!

  • Go to one of many fairs and festivals ranging from Taste of Smyrna, Marietta StreetfFest, Kennesaw Paws in the Park, North Georgia State Fair (opening Thursday, Sept. 24), Whole Hawg Happenin; Atlanta Greek Festival, Fall Folklife Festival at Atlanta History Center and more! It's Cobb Restaurant Week too starting on the 19th - so eat to your heart's content! (See Our Fairs and Festivals Article!)
  • Visit a Pumpkin Patch or Go Apple Picking  (See Our Article for a List!)
  • Enjoy the Two for Tuesday Deal at Fernbank Museum of Natural History
  • Take your kids to the PGA Tour (Tour Championship by Coca-Cola) at East Lake Golf Club. The actual event is Sept. 24 -27. However, a practice round will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 23 and many of the players will sign autographs and pose for photos with the fans. Better yet, children under the age of 18 receive FREE admission to the TOUR Championship when accompanied by an adult - ANY day!
  • Special Mommy & Me day (for kids of all ages) is on Sat., Sept. 26th at The College Football Hall of Fame (See This Week's Picks)
  • Get to Six Flags for the first weekend of FrightFest on Sept. 26-27  (See This Week's Picks)
  • Play Tourist - head to downtown Atlanta and visit attractions and museums, ride the SkyView Ferris Wheel, visit the World of Coca-Cola and more.
  • Speaking of museums, Smithsonian Day Live is on Sunday, Sept. 27th. That's a FREE admission day to numerous museums across the city/state. (See This Week's Picks.)
  • Take a Road Trip!! It's not too late to plan a last minute road trip, even if it's just for a couple of days. That's what we're doing. We're headed to Chattanooga (about a two hour drive) where we can finally go and "See Rock City," check out Ruby Falls, visit the Tennessee Aquarium, and enjoy a couple nights at The Chattanoogan Hotel.   Other options could be Callaway Gardens, and the North Georgia mountains (rent a cabin and go apple picking).

However you spend your week, enjoy it!  My husband and I are going to celebrate our birthdays with a quick staycation BEFORE our mini family vacation. We're staying downtown at The Glenn Hotel, plus going to see Seth MacFarlane with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. There will be QUITE a lot of music in the area, since Music Midtown will be going on as well (and what a variety they are offering this year). Be on the lookout for Elton John, Drake, Hozier, Alice in Chains, Billy Idol, Van Halen, Lenny Kravitz, Sam Smith...   Happy Fall Holiday!
