"From Here to There" - NEW at The Children's Museum of Atlanta

By Ashley Faber February 24, 2017

Weekends are meant for fun, and that’s exactly what we experienced when we recently visited The Children’s Museum of Atlanta. We were looking forward to our visit all week in anticipation of the new From Here To There exhibit. The exhibit is a fun and interactive way for kids and families to explore the science of how things move by land, sea and air.

However, learning about the new exhibit prior to our visit did not prepare us for the adventure that was in store. Before arriving at the museum, we were caught in the middle of a morning rain shower. We dodged the rain and ran quickly into the entrance of the museum where we were greeted with a welcoming smile from an employee. Within minutes we had three shiny turquoise tickets secured and our next stop was the exhibit.

Ready, Set, Go!

While Emory dashed quickly to the ‘grocery store’, I found the nearest employee and asked, “Where can I find the new exhibit

From Here To There

?” He responded with a chuckle, “just go from here to there [while pointing towards the far left corner of the museum].” We arrived at the exhibit and were faced with the biggest challenge of our visit – where to start? Our first stop was the lift station, where were learned about using different levers to lift the same amounts of weight. The results were fascinating – one set of weights was easier to lift than the other. It had my adult mind completely blown.

Each educational station within the exhibit focused on scientific themes such as gravity, friction and the laws of nature. The best part is that kids are able to perform hands on experiments after reading about what the station has to offer. We enjoyed learning about hot air balloons, engines, sailing boats, floating magnets and adjusting water valves to move boats through different water levels and more!

Wondering what our favorite station was? First, have you ever been in full control of a hovercraft? Emory sure was! The hovercraft station allowed kids to sit down, settle in and use their imagination to fly through the air (well, pretend to anyway). Kids are able to pilot this vessel on a cushion of air allowing them to twist, turn and travel with ease!

This exhibit has become one of the favorites that we've experienced at the museum. I encourage everyone to visit, and be sure to bring a friend, family or school group along. Since the exhibit is only here through May 29, 2017, we are already planning our next visit. Be sure to pack a lunch (yes you can bring food inside!), wear comfy clothes and get ready to learn something new about how things get “From Here To There.”
