GIVEAWAY: Win 4 Tix to "The Dragon King" at Center for Puppetry Arts

Playing Through April 2, 2017

March 17, 2017

A vibrant underwater tale based on Chinese folklore, The Dragon King is now playing at the Center for Puppetry Arts, through April 2. It hasn’t rained in ages, the village is in trouble and the only one with the power to bring back water to the land is The Dragon King. In hopes of finding the Dragon King, a determined grandmother voyages to the bottom of the sea to make a plea for a rainy day. Will she be successful? Families are invited to find out during this lively puppet adventure!

EDITOR'S REVIEW (By Jenna Dennisur)
I took my girls (ages 2 and 3 years) to The Dragon King Saturday at the Center for Puppetry Arts, which was part of a special World Puppetry Day celebration. The seating was great and the show was outstanding. While the suggested age group is four and older, my girls still thoroughly enjoyed it and watched the entire production without getting antsy. The life-like puppets and colorful scenery were amazing, and we all fell in love with the very fearless and funny grandmother. There is a very special and exciting ending that all the kids loved (we won’t give it away). Following the show, they explained how they made the string puppets move.. we love getting to see the art and technique behind the production.

Before the show, we attended the Create-A-Puppet Workshop™ , where we made dragon string puppets. We also went to the Worlds of Puppetry Museum to see the "Puppet Pop Up" cart where museum staff explained how they restore and preserve the puppets. We also attended a special "Tale Time" in the gallery for the reading of Anansi the Spider by Gerald McDermott (Tale Time is normally every Thursday at 2pm). My girls loved the interactive exhibits in the museum and they loved pretending to be puppeteers too. Finally, we went to the Guild workshop where there were dozens of puppets on display and the puppeteers explained how each one worked and gave us the opportunity to try them. When you go to the Center for Puppetry Arts, make sure you get there in plenty of time to enjoy the museum too - it's not just about the show!
