Six Flags Over Georgia - Fun With The Flash Pass

By Michelle Sisco, Publisher/ Editor Smyrna Vinings Marietta and Buckhead Midtown Brookhaven Macaroni Kid June 1, 2017

Summer is in full swing now, and one of my kids' favorite activities is to visit Six Flags Over Georgia

As often as possible.

Last year we learned the value of both the Season Pass AND the Dining Pass. Our first two visits more than covered the cost of what we would have paid without them, and we were frequent visitors to both Six Flags and White Water. With weather like we've had the last week, I especially love knowing we can go for just a little while - and if it rains, we can head home and return another day. (Parking is included with your season pass too.) Note that if you buy regular tickets, there are no refunds or rain checks for inclement weather.

After a while you learn when the best times to visit are (and the best/ worst days), in order to avoid the longest lines. However, if you want to REALLY get your fill of everything the park has to offer, consider purchasing The Flash Pass. When we visited Six Flags last week, we were celebrating my son's 12th birthday. Flash Passes for him and his friends were probably one of the best gift ideas ever. From 11am til 5pm, the boys went on every ride and roller coaster that was open - multiple times. And with our Platinum Passes, there was almost no waiting at all.

How does it work?  THE FLASH Pass is available online or at the park. Quantities are limited so you might want to consider purchasing online before your visit. You can add up to five people to your pass for a fee once at the park. Pick up your pass at the registration office when you arrive - you'll need to leave a valid ID at the office until you return the device.

You can watch an online tutorial for how the pass actually works HERE (Click "Buy Now" to see the demo). I promise it's easy though. You'll get an alert when it's your turn to ride. Skip the line and enter at the special THE FLASH Pass entrance. You can only make one reservation at a time - but as soon as you get to your ride, you're able to set up a reservation for your next one. Your reservation will be honored starting at the actual time it tells you to go, or any time after (if you decide, for example, you need a lunch break!).

A few words to the wise - you might want to wear a belt if you are purchasing The Flash Pass (or at least wear shorts with belt loops). I was nervous about losing it -  it's clunky (see photo above), and I didn't have any place to clip it. (I believe at some parks the devices are actually wristbands, which would be much more convenient.) You definitely won't want to pay the $100 fee if you lose the device, so just find some way to secure it! Also check the forecast. There are no refunds, so if you choose to purchase The Flash Pass on a stormy day, you might regret it. Anyway, rainy days are when you'll find the shortest lines, and you won't need one anyway!

The Flash Pass is best for serious roller coaster fans. There are 11 roller coasters at Six Flags Over Georgia, so you can get a LOT of rides in if you don't have to wait in lines! However,  it's also great for someone like me - I might occasionally ride a "scary ride," but if you make me think about it too long, I'll chicken out. I agreed to go on Daredevil Dive this time because there was no wait - and since we walked right up to the front, I couldn't back out!

On this day, I rode four roller coasters in less than 30 minutes. No Joker (literally).  Batman, Mindbender, Daredevil Dive and Batman again!  I was a little dizzy after that stretch, but the boys weren't slowing down a bit. They did ride The Joker. And Acrophobia too - several times in a row (ugh!).

I even rode in the front car of the Mine Train. Okay, that's the little coaster - but it was still a big step for me! I captured some of it on video HERE. Note that front row and preferred seating may not be available with The Flash Pass.

When you decide to purchase The Flash Pass, know that there are three "speeds" available: regular is $35, gold is $55 and platinum is $85 (this is a daily rate). With the regular pass, you still might have to wait 45 minutes for a ride, but you won't have to wait in the line. With the platinum, wait time is reduced as much as 90% - in most cases we walked right up!  While it does make for a pricey outing, I think it's a great investment for a special occasion. It's not unreasonable if you consider what you spend per day at other theme parks.

We had an awesome day at Six Flags over Georgia. We might try The Flash Pass at White Water later this summer just to see what a difference that makes too. A great gift idea for my younger son's birthday!

Visit the website to see which rides accept The Flash Pass. Choose a day, bring your friends... Most of all, have fun!
