It's Time for Summer at the Rock - and the NEW Lasershow 2.0

Fun at Stone Mountain Park

I grew up in New Orleans, but we often came to Atlanta to visit my grandmother, who moved here when I was ten. My memories of those trips include shopping at Lenox Square, days spent at White Water, and seeing the Lasershow Spectacular at Stone Mountain Park.

Last weekend we visited Stone Mountain Park for Summer at the Rock, and I discovered that their Lasershow is the longest running lasershow in the world! 1983 was the year it all began. A lot has changed since then, but the show is as popular as ever, and it continues to evolve to include new state-of-the-art technology and elements that, well, simply make it more spectacular each and every season.

This year the show has even more surprises in store for visitors, with Lasershow 2.0!  The "Star Wars" segment now features a fleet of robotic drones; there are even more fire and water effects; an amazing laser "canopy" features even more beams overhead. Plus, fireworks are interspersed throughout the show with an impressive finale too ( just wait for the extended version July 4th weekend!). The old favorite segments (salute to area sports teams, medley of popular music by Georgia artists) remain, but there are a lot of new visuals too!

You can see the lasershow at Stone Mountain park for FREE every night. You pay only the $15 for parking.  However, if you want to make the experience extra special, TERRACE SEATING is available starting at $10. Didn't bring chairs or blankets? No problem! Terrace seating includes popcorn and soft drinks. For $15 you also get ice cream and a glow necklace.

We were invited to visit for the full day, so we were able to enjoy many of the Summer at the Rock/ Adventure Pass attractions:We started at SkyHike (I had to get the kids to move on to something else after more than one hour). Then went to cool off at Geyser Tours (important: shoes are required, so bring a pair of water shoes or flip flops if you don't want to ruin any good sneakers!).

We checked out the new Dinosaur Explore adventure (see our review HERE), played in the Dinotorium (formerly the Great Barn), enjoyed some treats including homemade fudge from the candy shop and tasty fries from Tater Twists.

We rounded out our day seeing Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs – The 4-D Experience and playing a round of mini adventure golf. (My older child took off to head to the top of Stone Mountain on the cable car, Summit Skyride. It offers an amazing view of Atlanta!).
