REVIEW: Shipt On-Demand Grocery Delivery Service

By Michelle Sisco, SVM Macaroni Kid Publisher - Sponsored Advertising Content April 14, 2016
The Sunday after spring break, instead of being home from vacation as planned, we were stuck in Greenville, SC with a flat tire. My day to "catch up" after a week away was now gone. Exactly how was I going to get to the grocery, do all the laundry, read a week's worth of mail and get the kids ready for school, when I couldn't get home until at least mid-afternoon?

Enter Shipt, an on-demand grocery delivery service (and a lifesaver for busy moms!). Sometimes you just don't have that hour (or two) to go to the grocery store. You're scrambling to get one kid to baseball and another to karate; you're sick as as dog and can't fathom venturing out to the store (maybe you pulled out every delivery menu imaginable for that night's dinner, but realized that won't solve the problem of the kids' school lunches the next day or having milk in the house for breakfast).

These are the times when you really need Shipt.

Shipt puts the entire grocery store right in the palm of your hand. Download the app, select your items, choose your delivery window (as soon as an hour after your order) and you're done. A Shipt shopper will hand-select your items and deliver them to your front door. That's right - a personal grocery shopper!

Shipt makes finding items easy too. Browse through pre-selected categories like "Healthy Eating" or "Rainy Day" - or simply use the search option to find what you're looking for. Can't find your caramel almond milk coffee creamer? Submit a special request. No problem.

On that Sunday, we got home around 3pm. I went ahead and placed an order for at least three days worth of groceries - dinners, lunches, even food for the dogs. I threw some laundry in the machine, grabbed the stack of mail from the counter, and headed into the family room, where I curled up on the couch and caught the last nine holes of the Masters. That's how a Sunday should be spent (minus the laundry)!

At about 5pm, I received a message that "Mandy" was shopping for my groceries, along with a photo of her. Shortly thereafter I received a text from Mandy, letting me know that the store was out of one of my requested items, and asking me if I'd like to substitute it with another brand. I replied, "yes please"! When she completed her shopping, Mandy sent me a text to let me know she was on her way.

At 6pm, Mandy arrived at my house, arms full of groceries from Publix. Awesome.

I restocked our empty fridge and pantry, got dinner started, and helped the kids organize their backpacks for school the next day.

Shortly thereafter, I received an email from Shipt with my final, itemized receipt (which also gave me the opportunity to tip Mandy). All done!

A note about coupons and prices:
I'm an avid couponer and while I was initially disappointed that I was not able to use coupons with Shipt, I was happy to find their SALE tab and really like bargain shopping from there. I just save my coupons for another day. This service is about convenience...obviously, if you want to have a personal shopper, you have to make a few financial sacrifices! So, save your coupons for your next grocery trip and enjoy the time you've saved.

I may not be able to use Shipt every time I need to shop for groceries, but I'm certain I'll be using the service when saving time is on the top of my "to do" list!
