Jersey Boys Rock The Fox

Performances Through June 10th

May 30, 2012
In the last year I've seen a lot of musicals at the Fox about, well, music! Rock of Ages (I can't wait for the movie version mid-June!), Memphis, and now Jersey Boys.

JERSEY BOYS is the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons: Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito and Nick Massi. It's the true story of how a group of blue-collar boys from the wrong side of the tracks became one of the biggest American pop music sensations of all time. They wrote their own songs, invented their own sounds and sold 175 million records worldwide - all before they were thirty (and between stints in prison).

I knew their music, but I definitely didn't know their story. I also had no idea the play was so adult! I had to laugh when we walked in the theatre and saw a lobby sign which read, Flashing Strobe Lights, Loud Gunfire, And Authentic, Profane, Jersey Vocabulary Are Special Effects Used in This Production of Jersey Boys. Ha. Just a note that really, it's not meant for kids!

That said, if you can get out of the house for a night (or even matinee), I definitely recommend you go see Jersey Boys. You don't even have to be a fan of The Four Seasons to love this one...of course, you might be a fan and not even know it (I had no idea "Oh, What A Night" was one of their songs...). It's been stuck in my head for a week now though!

At times you'll feel like you're at a concert - "Sherry," "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" are just a few of the hits performed. At other times you'll feel you stepped into West Side Story - and you'll be waiting for the rumble. You could sense the audience wanting to stand and dance as if they were at a concert throughout the performance, but most held out until the end. Then, they roared!

Jersey Boys plays at the Fox through June 10th. For more information on JERSEY BOYS, go to www.JerseyBoysTour.com or www.broadwayinatlanta.com
