School's Out - For Fall?

Options For Working Parents/ Sept. 20-25

September 8, 2010

While many kids around the country started school on Tuesday, Cobb County public schools opened their doors Aug. 5th. So, now we have a "Fall Break" of sorts, the week of Sept. 20th to Sept. 24th. If you have to work and haven't found something fun for your kids yet, here are several suggestions.

The Smyrna Community Center is hosting what looks to be a great week-long camp. Included will be sports camp with Eddie Lee Wilkins Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, as well as daily arts and crafts projects, group games & activities, themed days, paint your own pottery, and much more. If you would like to register your child, you can do so online through the City of Smyrna website, or you can register at the front desk of the Community Center. If you are interested in registering online, CLICK HERE. Go to page 2 and look for "Smyrna School Year Day Camp." Weekly fee is $140 resident/ $150 non-resident. Also, you can send your child for less than the full week, but in order to do so, you must register in person at the Community Center to get the pro-rated fee. Better yet, you don't even have to register in advance! Need additional information? Email smyrnadaycamps@gmail.com

Vinings School of Art also has as a variety of options for camp that week. CLICK HERE for all of the details. Daily and weekly pricing. Camps are divided into three age groups: 3-4, 5-7, and 7-12. Children must be at least 5 to attend full day camp or afternoon camp. Activities include indoor fitness/obstacle course at Studio Atlanta Dance, canvas painting, and more. Prices start at $35 for a half-day to $71 for a full/extended day. Weekly rate is $275 (or $300 for extended day). Full details and prices are listed on the website.

Another recommended option is http://www.care.com for occasional sitters and nannies.

Of course, you can also check with local daycare centers as many offer "camps" during school breaks.
