TURBO - Now in Theatres!

Macaroni Kid Goes To The Movies

July 18, 2013
From the makers of Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda and The Croods, TURBO is a high-velocity 3D comedy about an underdog snail who dreams of being the greatest racer in the world. His dreams kick into overdrive when he miraculously attains the power of super-speed. But after making fast friends with a crew of streetwise, tricked-out es-car-goes, Turbo learns that no one succeeds on their own. So he puts his heart and shell on the line to help his pals achieve their dreams, before Turbo-charging his own impossible dream: winning the Indy 500.

Both my boys loved this movie. I asked them each to tell me their favorite part - and they both said, "the racing!" But there's much more to this movie than that. And while I'm still not the biggest fan of most animated kids' films (they simply aren't meant for me!), I enjoyed it as well. We saw a preview screening of TURBO in 3D, but you can see it in 2D as well. Personally I think 2D would be just fine for this one - but the colors and animation are more eye-popping in 3D of course. And even though there are racing scenes, the 3D version won't make you dizzy or make you feel like you're on a virtual roller-coaster ride.

This movie is simply fun, summer entertainment for kids. No big messages here. Sure, the "underdog" theme is pretty obvious, but since Turbo "magically" gained his speed, you can't really say he worked for it. More valuable would be the "follow your dreams" lesson. If a lesson is needed...

The TURBO soundtrack is a lot of fun (for all ages).  Featuring eveything from the music of Snoop Dogg and Run-DMC to Tom Jones (What's New Pussycat?), there's something for everyone. And the music really got my boys excited in the theatre! CLICK HERE if you want to view or purchase the soundrack on iTunes.
